Vegan options at Yo Sushi

Sushi is one of my favourite things. Especially the options at Yo Sushi. However, the vegan options at this eatery aren't that vast, until now. Their new menu has seen them do a complete rejig, which has birthed 9 new vegan options! I went to go try out these options on the day the new menu has launched.

I went to the branch in Selfridges, that is particularly swanky looking and I haven't visited since they did the refurb and changed the location. I like how they now have more booths in this branch and the lighting is pretty too.

Whilst I was waiting to try all the vegan options, I was recommended this Yuzu and Pear drink, which was citrusy and lovely. Definitely worth a try.

First up, it's the Tenderstem and Sesame, which is steamed tenderstem broccoli on a rich sesame sauce. This was super tasty, I enjoyed the sauce, the broccoli was perfect and they worked really well together. But I could make this at home, so I don't think I would have it again.

Now the Inari Taco is something I couldn't make at home and I wish I could, because it was delicious. So this is a golden tofu pocket that is filled with rice, avocado, ponzu salsa and vegan sriracha mayo. It's soft, sweet but savoury at the same time with a zing of spice. Worth a try! 

Then there's the reimagined Yasai Roll that contains inari, avocado, cos lettuce, carrot roll and now comes with vegan mayo and teriyaki sauce, so no more dry ass sushi and it makes such a difference. Simple but so effective!

Next up is the Mushroom Teriyaki Burger, which is basically a steamed bao bun in burger form. This contains braised slices of shiitake mushroom in teriyaki sauce, pickled red onions and cucumber. I can't even describe how good this was. The softness of the steamed bun with the crunchy cucumber, sweet pickled onions and slightly salty mushrooms was orgasmic for the senses. I would have this again, no doubt.

Something that is exclusive to the Yo Sushi in Selfridges is the Avocado Nori Taco. This was weird but I enjoyed it. The taco shell is a nori sheet that has been deep fried and then filled with sushi rice, avocado, ponzu salsa, crispy onions and vegan sriracha mayo. Crunchy, an abundance of flavour and very interesting to look at.

One of the bigger bowls is the Shitake Mushroom Ramen, shown above. Let me just say that I don't really like ramen, so I'm not the best person to evaluate this but I will say the broth was lovely and I enjoyed all that was within the bowl but I can't say it was my favourite.

I also tried the Glazed Aubergine Nigiri, Avocado Nigiri, Stir Fried Pak Choi and Garlic and something that isn't new but I tried for the first time is the Spicy Pepper Cauliflower (all can be seen in the image at the end of the post). I loved the Glazed Aubergine Nigiri and Spicy Pepper Cauliflower but found the other two options to be very basic.

There's also a new dessert option! The Chocolate Pot. It was amazing! It's basically a chocolate mousse that's decadent but not sickly. Really enjoyable.

Overall, I loved trying out the new options all to myself and I would recommend a visit to find your new love. Some options are quite basic but everything is tasty.

Would I go back? Yes, for sure!

How did they cope with the vegan dietary requirement? Vegan options shown on the main menu, so you don't feel awks asking for another menu.

What are the prices like? Mostly purple plates but I recommend waiting for Blue Plate Mondays, as it won't be as expensive.

What is eatery best for? A fun sushi filled dinner or lunch with anyone
